Cork-born quintet Cardinals are ablaze on new single ‘Get It’. The Irish band have been commended for their unusual blend of shoegaze, Celtic folk and punk, which pans out to create busy, though fruitful soundscapes. ‘Get It’ is no different. The track sees the band leaning into an inviting pop sound with an uncomplicated, snappy melody, feeling pouring through its earnestly lovelorn lyricism. Innocently stated lines like “I, I got you in my heart” and “never forget the power of the heart” feel tenderly endearing against the thorny, concrete grit of scuzzy riffs which propel through the track with a high-powered overdriven feel. ‘Get It’ feels like a straightforward introduction from Cardinals, which shows a modest yet hearty arrangement of the core elements that the band draw upon to encapsulate a nostalgia which inherently draws you in. Looking forward, it seems that Cardinals could very well be on track to be Ireland’s next big thing. -Kayla Sandiford
